Depleted Uranium
is a by-product of enriched uranium, 1.7 times more dense than lead,
and favored for armor-piercing weaponry.
After striking
a solid object (such as a tank) it erupts into a burning vapor, which
settles as poisonous and radioactive dust.
Many veterans
of the Gulf War and the Kosovo conflict claim illness from Depleted
Uranium residue, and several cases of death by leukemia among former
troops in those arenas have been reported in the European press.
The Gulf War
ended February 28, 1991 and the Pentagon, United Kingdom, and United
Nations continue to deny that DU weapons produce ill effects in troops.
